Grande Prairie Energy Optimization Project 

JV Driver has been selected to complete a new 50MW Dresser Rand Turbogenerator for Weyerhaeuser. The scope of this project includes all new foundations, site scaffolding, all piping (including mill tie-ins), a structural pipe-bridge and tower installation, as well as the mechanical installation of the Turbogenerator.

To date, there have been zero lost time incidents. A clean record through all of the pre-shutdown work, the shutdown itself and all of the post-shutdown work.

Zellstoff Celgar Green Energy Project 

The Zellstoff Celgar, Green Energy Project, mechanical installation was awarded to JVD Installations Inc in March 2010. The project initially consisted of the mechanical installation of a 48MW Shin Nippon Condensing Turbine, Brush Generator and all ancillary piping and equipment installations. Upon mobilization to site for mechanical installation JVD was also awarded the electrical installation package consisting of the installation of all high voltage cables, control and power cabling, switch gear, power control and DCS installations, and all field terminations associated with the Turbine/Genrator and ancillary equipment.

The Turbine started commissioning in September 2010 and to date has met all of its regulatory requirements for output and has met or exceeded the stringent mechanical quality parameters set out by Shin Nippon Turbines and Brush Generators. 

The Zellstoff Celgar Green Energy Project was executed safely, with high quality and in a timely manner with zero Lost Time Incidents.

Kamloops Turbo Generator/ M&D Digester Replacement Projects

Kamloops Pulp is a 1,600 ton per day Northern Bleech Soft Wood Craft, Two-Line Pulp Mill. The Kamloops projects included the installation of a 32 MW Fully Condensing Turbine and Wood Handling Area, and replacement of two existing M&D Continuous Digesters with the addition of new Surge Tubes.

JV Driver was the General Contractor in conjunction with Weyerhaeuser Engineering Services, who provided detailed engineering and construction management. These projects were the first projects in Canada performed jointly with Weyerhaeuser Engineering Services and were completed with tremendous Safety, Quality, Schedule and Cost results. 

In addition to the two major projects, JV Driver acted as the lead contractor on three major shut-downs. Further work completed included; the replacement of the Kamyr Digester Flash Tank, Specialty Pulp Pilot Plant, and Civil and Mechanical services for the installation of two 600 ton High Density Storage Tanks. All work was completed with zero Lost Time Incidents and less than 0.5% re-work.

Forestry - Prince George Green Power Project

Prince George Green Power Project

Prince George Green Power Project was a mill upgrade at Canfor's Prince George Pulp and Paper Mill. The upgrade allows the mill to produce electrical power using a Steam Turbine Generator.

JV Driver acted as the General Contractor for this project and was responsible for the completion of all aspects including Civil, Mechanical, Structural, and Architectural. The project required numerous plant upgrades and the scope of work included Structural Supply and Erection, Equipment Foundation Demolition and Installation, and Mechanical and Piping Supply and Installation.

This project involved extensive Boiler and High Pressure Work revolving around two Recovery Boiler Conversions. One Boiler was converted  to Low Odour, and the second was converted into a Power Boiler. Additional scope included the installation of a Steam Turbine Generator and a Cooling Tower. Construction was carried out within two years with zero Lost Time Incidents.

Grande Prairie Optimization Project

The Grande Prairie Optimization Project is an environmental and efficiency project. The centerpiece of the environmental portion of the project is a Two-Vessel Oxygen Delignification System with pre and post Oxygen Washing, which significantly reduces effluent color. The efficiency portion of the project is a combination of many elements, involving the Chemical, Recovery, Utilities, Fibreline, and Machine Room areas.

JV Driver acted as the general contractor for this project and was responsible for the completion of all aspects of the project including civil, mechanical, structural, tankage, electrical, and instrumentation. This expansive scope included the replacement of all piping in the Brownstock Area, and incorporated re-building the Bleech Washers, innovatively replacing the Chip Bin and an expansive heavy lift schedule. Construction was carried out within two years with zero Lost Time Incidents.
